— Tampa Bay Tech defeated host Blake in a Kickoff Classic where the final score didn’t dictate the moods of the respective head coaches after the game.

While Tech dominated the first quarter, shooting to a 12-0 lead on the legs and arm of quarterback Deon Cain, Blake stayed in the game with tough defense.

Cain opened the game with an 80-yard touchdown run, part of his 204 first quarter all-purpose yards. The Yellow Jackets defense made the rest of the game more difficult as they intercepted two passes, including a 46-yard return for a touchdown by Donte’ Glover.

Titans coach Jayson Roberts said the Titans were missing six starters and they would need to clean up their sloppy play that resulted in 20 penalties.

Coach Darryl Gordon’s goal for his Blake squad was to measure where they stood versus good competition.

“I still like what I see. We played a helluva ball team in Tech. (Cain) showed everybody why he (committed) to Clemson. But we kinda contained him.”

Tech cornerback Jaisen Randolph had two interceptions.

Tampa Bay Tech opens the regular season Friday at Newsome. Blake travels to Brandon.
