TAMPA — Chris Perez rushed for two touchdowns and quarterback Tristan Hyde passed for a pair of scores to lead Strawberry Crest to a shutout victory in a Kickoff Classic game.

Both of Perez’s touchdowns were 1-yard runs. He finished with 38 yards on the ground.

Hyde hooked up with Clay Cullins on third down to start the scoring for Strawberry Crest, a 29-yard pass that gave the Chargers a 6-0 lead late in the first quarter.

Hyde’s second passing touchdown came on a swing pass to Joshua Hyde in the second quarter. Hyde scampered around the right side to complete a 17-yard touchdown reception that gave Strawberry Crest a 19-0 lead at the half. Hyde completed eight of 15 passes for 85 yards.

Middleton struggled on the offensive side of the ball.

Besides a 76-yard run from junior running back Jaquan Brown in the second quarter, Middleton had a difficult time moving the ball against a stingy Strawberry Crest defense. Defensive end Alex Carswell led the Strawberry Crest defense with two sacks.
