RIVERVIEW — Steinbrenner built a big lead before Spoto tried to mount a rally, but the Warriors prevailed for their first win.
Spoto started with some razzle-dazzle. From their own 17, quarterback Kevin Hobley threw to wide receiver Todd Sims, who then threw to a wide-open Kalvin McCoy for an 83-yard touchdown.
Steinbrenner scored the next 34 points. Curtis Fitch started the barrage of points with an 11-yard pass to Kexio Snelling in the back corner of the end zone.
In the second quarter, Bryce Jones blocked a Spoto punt that gave Steinbrenner the ball at the Spoto 5-yard line. Two plays later, Shyheem Barthel punched it in from 1 yard out.
Fitch and Snelling hooked up for another touchdown from 13 yards out and Barthel ran it in from 10 yards to put Steinbrenner up 27-8.
Barthel had 100 yards rushing.
Down 34-8 to start the fourth, Spoto tried to mount a comback with TDs from Jesse Holmes and Hobley. The Spartans had the ball on the Warriors’ 5 with a minute to go, but Steinbrenner held and made an interception on the goal line on a fourth-down play.
