ST. PETERSBURG — Other than allowing a blocked punt and a return for a touchdown on its first series, St. Petersburg did about everything right in its victory against Clearwater in a game that started 45 minutes late due to a torrential rainstorm. Five runners combined to rush for 268 yards as the Green Devils held the Tornadoes to 31 rushing yards.
Green Devils senior running back Deangelo Reaves rushed for 121 yards on 14 carries and scored four touchdowns to lead the hosts to their second straight win. St. Petersburg sophomore running back Jaquel Waller ran for 66 yards on seven carries and scored on a 35-yard run.
Robert Tribolet passed for 43 yards completing two of seven passes, including a 30-yard touchdown.
After Tupac Blanch scooped up a blocked punt and returned it 18 yards for a touchdown to give Clearwater a 7-0 lead three minutes into the game, the Green Devils took control. Reaves capped a six-play, 65-yard drive on St. Petersburg’s next possession with an 11-yard run and scored on an 18-yard run on the Green Devils’ next series.
