HUDSON — A new district foe stood in Fivay’s way Friday night, as Spring Hill Springstead traveled to Falcon Stadium for an important Class 6A-District 6 matchup.
Behind a strong rushing attack and tenacious defense, the Eagles were able to control the contest throughout.
Springstead (5-0, 2-0) opened up the scoring, capping a nine-play, 73-yard drive with a 33-yard touchdown run by junior running back Robert Holdway with 7:27 left in the first quarter.
The Eagles stayed with an efficient, uptempo option attack and rolled up 184 yards rushing by halftime.
Fivay (2-3, 0-1) gained only 13 yards on the ground off 13 carries.
By intermission, the Eagles added three more scores and limited the Falcons to 27 yards, including holding senior tailback Davion Sutton (14 carries, 55 yards) to 1 yard on seven touches.
Eagles quarterback Tyler Mahla was taken out of the game midway through the third quarter, with Springstead up 34-0. Mahla completed seven of 12 passes for 47 yards and added 139 yards rushing on 10 attempts.
Fivay quarterback Eric Vitale completed two of 15 passes for 14 yards and was hindered by six drops by his wide receivers.
