RIVERVIEW — Junior quarterback Kevin Hobley threw for 165 yards and two touchdowns as Spoto defeated visiting Lennard for its second straight victory.
Hobley connected with Marc McCoy on a 35-yard scoring strike in the second quarter and found Tavaris Johnson for a 54-yard touchdown in the third. The Spoto defense also contributed with a big fumble recovery deep in its territory and an interception.
Lennard QB Dontae Johnson threw for 142 yards and ran in from the 18-yard line for his team’s lone TD with 1:15 left in the game.
The Longhorns (1-9) coughed the ball up early in the second quarter on the Spoto 5-yard line and the Spartans (2-7) scored on their next two possessions.
James Bethea broke off a 61-yard run, and two plays later Traverian Williams bulled his way 34 yards for a touchdown with 10:35 left in the half. After the Spartans held, Jesse Holmes’ 33-yard run helped set up McCoy’s leaping touchdown catch on the left sideline for a 14-0 lead before halftime.
Spoto stopped Lennard on fourth down inside its 10-yard line early in the second half and drove 90 yards for another score. Johnson’s catch and run put the Spartans up 21-0 with 55 seconds left in the third quarter.
