All games 7 p.m. unless noted Class 8A-2
Orlando Timber Creek (24-5) at Durant (21-4)
NEED TO KNOW: Durant won its district semifinal with a walk-off home run, came back from an 11-run deficit to beat Alonso in the district final, and hit two more walk-off home runs to win its first two region games. Stay tuned for more thrills because anything appears possible with this group of Cougars. Timber Creek might present Durant with its toughest playoff challenge to date.
Chamberlain (24-7) at Okeechobee (17-8)
NEED TO KNOW: The Chiefs dropped a few games late in the season but appear to have righted the ship, winning their past four, including a 13-1 drubbing of Countryside in a region semifinal. Senior Bianka Bell has been on a tear all season, hitting .637 with 10 home runs, including a grand slam in the Countryside victory.
River Ridge (19-5) at Lakewood Ranch (23-6)
NEED TO KNOW: The Royal Knights are coming off an emotional 10-7 victory against rival Mitchell in last Friday's region semifinals. River Ridge used the long ball to dispose of the Mustangs. Royal Knights coach Ernie Beck knows for his team to reach the final four, it will have to continue its hot hitting. As a team, River Ridge has 17 home runs, 42 doubles and 10 triples. Beck likely will send freshman Makenzie Goluba (10-1, 45 strikeouts) to the mound.
Fort Myers Bishop Verot (23-6) at Academy of the Holy Names (17-6)
NEED TO KNOW: Bishop Verot has shut out three of its past four opponents but will have to pitch extremely well and play its best defense against AHN to make it four shutouts in five games. The Jaguars average more than eight runs a game and are hitting .365 as a team. AHN's Ashton Hill and Christina Lodato are both hitting .406 and Olivia Jones is at .373. This game should be close.
Quincy Munroe Day (14-6) at Academy at the Lakes (14-4)
WHERE/WHEN: Live Oak Park/4 p.m.
NEED TO KNOW: Academy at the Lakes had a region quarterfinal bye and then defeated Brooksville Hernando Christian for the third time season, 3-0, in the semifinals. Munroe Day, a 7-3 winner over Aucilla Christian last Friday, only has 11 players on its roster. Senior Haleigh Corbally has a 14-6 record and has struck out 169 batters. Corbally also is the team's leading hitter (.590) and has 33 RBIs.
