Two Tampa Bay area softball players and two coaches are finalists for the 2014 Miss Softball and Coach of the Year awards, which go to the best player and high school coach in Florida.
After leading Bloomingdale to the Class 8A state title this season, junior pitcher Lace Smith and coach Mandy Schuerman were named 8A Player and Coach of the Year, making them finalists for the Florida Dairy Farmers 2014 Miss Softball and Coach of the Year Awards.
Academy at the Lakes senior shortstop Lauren Evans was named the 2A Player of the Year, while Canterbury’s Jody Moore was named the 2A Coach of the Year.
Tampa Prep hires girls soccer coach
Tampa Prep hired Santiago Carreno as its girls soccer coach, director of athletics Mike Flynn announced. Carreno takes over for Cindy Schofield, who won more than 80 games in her five seasons. Carreno has been the boys varsity assistant the past four years.
