8A-7 at Riverview

SCHEDULE: Today: Wharton (6) vs. Riverview (3), 11 a.m.; Plant (5) vs. Newsome (4), 2 p.m. Wednesday: Newsome-Plant winner vs. Bloomingdale (1), 3 p.m.; Riverview-Wharton winner vs. Alonso (2), 6 p.m. Thursday: Semifinal winners, 7 p.m.

OUTLOOK: Bloomingdale lost one district game during the regular season and enters the tournament ranked No. 4 in the 8A state poll, led by junior pitcher Lace Smith, who is 17-1 on the mound with 198 strikeouts. Alonso senior shortstop and Florida State signee Jessica Warren has been one of the state’s top hitters this season, batting .582 with 32 hits and 20 RBIs. The Ravens are ranked No. 10 in the 8A poll. Wharton entered the district tournament as the bottom seed last year yet reached the district championship.

7A-7 at Brandon

SCHEDULE: Today: Tampa Bay Tech (6) vs. Durant (3), 1 p.m.; Brandon (5) vs. East Bay (4), 3 p.m. Wednesday: Durant-TBT winner vs. Strawberry Crest (2), 5 p.m.; East Bay-Brandon winner vs. Plant City (1), 7 p.m. Thursday: Semifinal winners, 7 p.m.

OUTLOOK: Plant City, ranked No. 10 in the 7A state poll, won the coin toss to take the top seed over Strawberry Crest. Each team finished with identical district records, with losses against each other. Megan Reed, who has signed with Florida, leads the district with nine home runs. Durant and East Bay both won district titles last year and are capable of advancing to the final.

7A-8 at Gaither

SCHEDULE: Wednesday: Sickles (5) vs. Wiregrass Ranch (4), 7 p.m. Thursday: Freedom (3) vs. Steinbrenner (2), 5 p.m.; Wiregrass-Sickles winner vs. Gaither (1), 7 p.m. Saturday: Semifinal winners, 1 p.m.

OUTLOOK: Gaither’s late surge, propelled by sophomore Bethany Kursch’s big bat and sophomore pitcher Sammi Grat’s command on the mound, resulted in earning the top seed. Freedom finished last year as the 7A state runner-up, and after losing five of its first seven games, won 10 of 12. Steinbrenner, led by sophomore second baseman Daniela Bautista, is seeking its first region appearance since 2012.

6A-9 at Blake

SCHEDULE: Today: King (8) vs. Chamberlain (1), 10 a.m.; Armwood (5) vs. Blake (4), 12:30 p.m.; Hillsborough (6) vs. Leto (3), 3 p.m.; Lennard (7) vs. Jefferson (2), 5:30 p.m. Wednesday: Leto-Hillsborough winner vs. Jefferson-Lennard winner, 4:30 p.m.; Blake-Armwood winner vs. Chamberlain-King winner, 7 p.m.; Thursday: Semifinal winners, 7 p.m.

OUTLOOK: Chamberlain enters the tournament ranked No. 2 in the 6A state poll and is playing with plenty of confidence after defeating three state-ranked teams in the last two weeks. Jefferson, which split with Chamberlain during the regular season, is seeking its first district title. Leto last reached the postseason in 2012 while Lennard and Blake each made program history last season by advancing to the region playoffs.

5A-9 at Robinson

SCHEDULE: Wednesday: Spoto (3) vs. Middleton (2), 7 p.m. Thursday: Robinson (1) vs. Spoto-Middleton winner, 7 p.m.

OUTLOOK: With three teams in the district, Robinson automatically clinched a state region berth and will play either Middleton or Spoto for the district title and a chance to host during the region tournament. Middleton and Spoto are both seeking their first state region appearance.

4A-10 at Berkeley Prep

SCHEDULE: Tuesday: Sarasota Booker (4) vs. Academy of the Holy Names (1), 5 p.m.; Berkeley Prep (3) vs. Tampa Catholic (2), 7 p.m. Wednesday: Semifinal winners, 7 p.m.

OUTLOOK: Holy Names is seeking its fourth straight region appearance while Tampa Catholic is trying for its second straight berth. Berkeley Prep, led by senior and Cal-Berkeley signee Kristin Hoover, who leads the county in home runs with 14, last reached the postseason in 2012.

3A-7 at Fest Field, Odessa

SCHEDULE: Monday: Bishop McLaughlin (5) vs. Brooks-DeBartolo (4), 4:30 p.m. Tuesday: Brooks-DeBartolo-Bishop McLaughlin winner vs. Carrollwood Day (1), 2 p.m.; Tampa Prep (3) vs. Seffner Chr. (2), 4:30 p.m. Thursday: Semifinal winners, 5 p.m.

OUTLOOK: Carrollwood Day, ranked No. 8 in the 3A polls, defeated Seffner Christian twice during the regular season. The Patriots won the district title last season, the first in program history. Seffner Christian, ranked No. 6, has reached the region playoffs the last two seasons.

2A-7 at West Tampa Little League

SCHEDULE: Thursday: Academy at the Lakes (2) vs. Cambridge Christian (1), 4 p.m.

OUTLOOK: Cambridge Christian, the Bay Conference champions and fourth-ranked team in 2A, defeated Academy at the Lakes during the regular season. Sophomore Alea White is having a monster season for the Lancers, leading the county with 212 strikeouts, while batting .692 with 36 hits and 29 RBIs. Academy at the Lakes, the fifth-ranked team in 2A, reached the 2A state semifinals last season and is led by South Florida-bound shortstop Lauren Evans.

2A-8 at Canterbury

SCHEDULE: Monday: Hernando Christian (4) vs. Keswick Christian (5), 6 p.m. Tuesday: Bayshore Christian (2) vs. Lakeside Christian (3), 5:30 p.m.; Hernando Christian-Keswick Christian winner vs. Canterbury (1), 7 p.m. Thursday: Semifinal winners, 6 p.m.

OUTLOOK: Canterbury, the No. 1-ranked team in 2A, went undefeated in district play and is the defending district, region and state champion. Bayshore Christian last reached the postseason in 2009. The Faith Warriors split with Lakeside Christian during the regular season.
