Sickles High's Eric Floyd had 14 points and 10 rebounds and the Gryphons' defense limited the Steinbrenner boys basketball team to just two field goals in the second half on the way to a 62-49 home victory Wednesday night.
Brett Westwood added 18 points for Sickles (12-4) while Drake Wagner led the way for Steinbrenner with 14.
"We pride ourselves on playing good defense, and Eric played one of his best games," Sickles coach Renaldo Garcia said. "We knew it would be very challenging and we did a good job getting back (on defense) in the second half."
Steinbrenner (8-4) led 20-15 after the first quarter, but Sickles outscored the Warriors 21-11 in the second quarter to take a 36-31 halftime lead.
Steinbrenner pulled to 36-33 early in the third quarter when Jack Frank made two free throws.
But Floyd scored a basket, Devante Michem made one free throw and a field goal and Brett Westwood and Daniel Harris each added field goals to give Sickles a 10-point lead to put the game out of reach.
Steinbrenner was 14 for 48 (29.1 percent) from the field, including 2 of 22 in the second half. Sickles was 22 of 48 (45.8 percent) from the field.
Steinbrenner outrebounded Sickles 29-26 and Joey Maloney led the Warriors with seven rebounds.
