TAMPA — Ray Ray McCloud had three touchdown runs to lead Sickles, but quarterback Isaac Holder matched him point for point, tossing three touchdowns in a win that boosted the Gryphons to 4-0 on the season.
McCloud had another big game, rushing for 215 yards, and Holder threw for 210 yards and touchdown passes of 58, 40 and 60 yards.
McCloud gets the headlines, but Holder stood out in the mind of Sickles coach Brian Turner.
“I don't know if there is a better quarterback in the entire county,'' Turner said. “There's some fine quarterbacks, but Isaac Holder is as good as anyone.''
The Gryphons started quickly when Holder found Jaaron Barrett for a 58-yard TD pass on the Gryphons' first possession, and McCloud scored the first of his three touchdown runs on the next drive.
Steinbrenner countered with a 12-yard strike from Curtis Fitch to Kezio Snelling, but another long Sickles drive culminated in a short touchdown run by McCloud. After Justin Harris caught a 40-yard touchdown pass from Holder, the rout was on.
