TAMPA — It would have been easy for Sickles to take this game lightly. The Gryphons (9-1) have already won their first district title and will host a playoff game for the first time in school history next week. But on senior night, the Gryphons came away with a win.

Running back Ray Ray McCloud III ran for 267 yards and three touchdowns. The win also gave Sickles the trophy in the First Citrus Bank Bowl.

“When we are playing Alonso there is always something to play for,” Sickles coach Brian Turner said. “They fight for everything. It means everything when we are playing them.”

The Gryphons started off when Issac Holder found Jaaron Barrett on a 20-yard TD pass on fourth-and-5, but Ish Witter evened it up for Alonso (5-5) with a short TD run. Sickles led 21-17 at the half, but Alonso scored 10 unanswered points, capped by a 4-yard Witter score to give the Ravens the lead.

McCloud scored from 30 yards to put the Gryphons back on top. Two field goals by Jack Bryzenski gave the lead back to the Ravens, but Sickles’ Holder scored with less than two minutes to play.
