ST. PETERSBURG — Six players scored for Shorecrest (1-4) as the Chargers rolled to victory against Bishop McLaughlin. to snap a three-game losing streak.
Travis Dugan put on a show for the homecoming crowd with 172 yards on 12 of 20 passing and rushed for 73 yards on 10 carries. Dugan completed two passes for touchdowns, including one with 14 seconds left in the first half on a 53-yard Hail Mary to Aundre Fredericks.
Chad Swindell (15 carries, 117 yards) opened the scoring with a 3-yard run in the first quarter.
The Hurricanes had a chance to score on their next possession inside Shorecrest’s 10-yard line, but a bad snap on a shotgun play to quarterback R.J. Perciavalle was recovered by the Chargers. Bishop McLaughlin failed to cross midfield all but once the rest of the game.
In the second quarter, Dugan capped a 65-yard drive with an 8-yard pass to A.J. Lanza for a touchdown. Dugan’s desperate heave put the Chargers up 21-0.
In the third quarter, Aaron Stypinski scored on a 14-yard run and Sam Grant added a 4-yard run for a score. Jonathan Dacres capped the scoring with a 13-yard run.
Perciavalle was a bright spot for the Hurricanes (1-4), completing eight of 16 passes for 115 yards.
