WESLEY CHAPEL — Ben Perdomo ran for 140 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries as River Ridge pummeled Wesley Chapel in a Class 5A-District 7 showdown.
The Royal Knights (3-4, 2-1) went 61 yards in 11 plays on their first drive, with Perdomo scoring from 2 yards out, to give River Ridge an early lead they would never relinquish.
Trailing 14-0 at the half, Wesley Chapel (0-7, 0-3) seemingly found the end zone on a 97-yard kickoff return by Eric Bennett to start the third quarter. However, a penalty took the points off the board.
Jordan Harris recovered a Wesley Chapel fumble on the ensuing play, which led to another TD run by Perdomo and a 21-0 lead for the Royal Knights.
The Royal Knights’ defense put on an impressive display, holding the Wildcats to minus-6 yards rushing on 27 carries (including a goal-line stand in the third quarter after Wesley Chapel had a first-and-goal from the 2-yard line).
River Ridge also forced four turnovers, including a 20-yard fumble return for a score by Anthony Spinelli for the game’s final score.
With two sacks, Bennett doubled his season total.
