The U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Tour heads to Hillsborough High's auditorium next Wednesday to officially select Terriers senior defensive end and University of Florida commitment Jordan Sherit for the 2013 game.

The 6-foot-4, 230-pound Sherit was Hillsborough's leading tackler last season with 110 and he was the Terriers' sack leader with nine. He committed to the Gators last summer after being recruited by dozens of Division I schools, including such prestigious academic universities as Stanford.

The 2013 U.S. Army All-American Bowl will be televised live on NBC from the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas at 1 p.m. on Jan. 5. At next week's selection stop, Sherit will be honored in front of teammates, coaches, teachers and classmates during an assembly in the school's auditorium. During the assembly, Sherit will be presented his jersey for the game.

The five U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Tour teams travel across the country from September to December to announce all 90 players and 125 marching band musicians for the game.

The U.S. Army All-American Bowl is considered one of the nation's best high school all-star prep football games, featuring 90 of the nation's top senior players in an East vs. West format. Several other players from the county have been selected for past games, including Plant's James Wilder, Aaron Murray, Orson Charles and Phillip Ely, Tampa Catholic's Christian Green and Armwood's Ryne Giddins.

Seffner Christian's finale canceled

Seffner Christian Academy's game Nov. 2 against Jacksonville North Florida Educational Institute at Tampa Bay Tech has been canceled, Crusaders athletic director Andy Holmes announced.

Holmes said NFEI no longer fields a football team.

The game against NFEI was supposed to be Seffner Christian's homecoming game. Holmes said this is the second homecoming opponent to cancel on the Crusaders. He said Clearwater Lakeside Christian withdrew earlier this year.

As a result, Holmes said SCA is changing its homecoming game to Oct. 26 against Cambridge Christian at Strawberry Crest.
