OUTLOOK: Jimmy Stanger, a University of Virginia commit, dominated his last two rounds, winning the district and region title at Temple Terrace. After the region win he said he was ready to make a serious case for a state title. Stanger, last season's Tampa Tribune Boys Golfer of the Year, hopes to improve on last year when he finished the two-day state tournament plus-15 and in a tie for 28th place. … Newsome had a solid season capped by its second straight district title, but slipped a little finishing as the runner-up in the Region 4 tournament. The Wolves return four golfers from last season's 2A state tournament third-place team. District champ John Michael Coultas and team region-leader Tyler Bakich (who finished third) lead the Wolves this season. … Plant won its district crown and finished only two strokes off of the region title behind strong play of seniors Ryan Gendron and Brad White and sophomore Patrick Mills.
WHERE: Mission Inn Resort and Club (El Campeon Course), 10400 County Road 48, Howey-in-the-Hills
TODAY'S TEE TIMES: (Player, Tee Time, Hole) Tampa Catholic – Ryan Williams, 9:54, 10; AJ Pascua, 10:03, 10; Joe Testerman, 10:12, 10; Ryan Tamashiro, 10:21, 10; Nilo Sanchez, 10:30, 10.
OUTLOOK: The Crusaders are playing for a state title for the first time in school history as they qualified as the region runner-up. The Crusaders notched a number of milestones this season, including lowest team, nine-hole round, lowest individual nine-hole round (Sanchez's 33 against Jesuit) and team lowest district score, but saw many of their accomplishments overshadowed by district-opponent Jesuit. The Crusaders put that away at the district tournament as Sanchez' 74 led the team to the state tournament, eight strokes ahead of Jesuit. Tamashiro and Testerman added scores under 80 at the region tournament and will need to knock those down even further to compete for a state team title.

TODAY'S TEE TIMES: Individuals (Player, School, Tee Time, Hole) Terese Romeo (Freedom), 9:36 a.m., No. 1.
TEAMS: (Player, Tee Time, Hole) Steinbrenner – Hannah Crosby, 9:18, 1; Claire Becker, 9:27, 1; Brooke Deal, 9:36, 1; Kelsey Holbert, 9:45, 1.
OUTLOOK: After winning the district crown, Romeo followed with another outstanding round at the region tournament with a 75. The Patriots sophomore saw limited playing time this season after having two wrist surgeries in the last year, but when she played she was outstanding. The biggest test for Romeo will be to see how her wrist holds up in back-to-back days of 18-hole golf, something she hasn't tried since her last surgery in August. … In only four seasons, Steinbrenner has had a golfer reach the state tournament three times and is looking to build the school's reputation with a good showing in the Class 2A tourney. Sophomore Claire Becker finished second in the district tournament to Romeo, but had a little bit of a disappointment at the region tournament, carding an 86. She'll need to improve from to help the Warriors compete as will sophomore Kelsey Holbert, who finished in the top four at district and region.

The Jaguars have been one of the most consistent Hillsborough area teams for a number of years and this lineup is very experienced with most of its squad playing at the high school level for five seasons. Martin finished tied for 17th a season ago and the Jaguars were eighth as a team. … Carrollwood Day sophomore Claudia Rami is making her first state tournament appearance after finishing as the district individual runner-up (78) and sixth (80) at the region tournament.
