Each week, the Tribune prep sports staff selects a Male and Female Athlete of the Week. The selections are based on athletic performance.
Daniel Dean, Middleton
WHY WE CHOSE HIM: Dean won the boys race at the Don Bishop Invitational on Saturday in 16 minutes, 49 seconds. The win was the sophomore's fourth of the season. Dean has also won the Central Invitational, Lennard Invitational and East Bay Invitational. His personal best this season is 16:32 at East Bay.
COLLEGE PLANS: Dean is already being recruited by Tampa-area colleges such as South Florida, Tampa and Saint Leo.
Sneha Sathish, King
WHY WE CHOSE HER: Sathish defended her title by winning the girls race at the Don Bishop Invitationa in a personal-best 19 minutes, 15 seconds, one of the five fastest times posted by a female runner from Hillsborough County this year. The sophomore had a previous PR of 19:58, which she ran at the state meet last year. She is also a standout tennis player.
COLLEGE PLANS: Will compete if an opportunity arises and is interested in studying medicine.
