Each week, the Tribune prep sports staff selects a Male and Female Athlete of the Week. The selections are based on athletic performance.
Tajee Fullwood, Tampa Bay Tech
WHY WE CHOSE HIM: Fullwood, a senior defensive back, had a standout performance in the Titans' 14-7 upset against Plant on Friday, finishing with a forced fumbled, two fumble recoveries and two interceptions, one of which sealed the win in the fourth quarter.
COLLEGE PLANS: Fullwood is verbally committed to the University of South Florida and chose the Bulls over Florida State, Central Florida, Rutgers, Vanderbilt, Tennessee and Syracuse.
Corey Perkins, Tampa Prep
WHY WE CHOSE HER: Perkins, a junior outside hitter on the Terrapins' volleyball team, led her team to two huge victories last week, including a 16-kill, 15-dig performance in a 3-0 upset over rival and nationally ranked Berkeley Prep. The win snapped Tampa Prep's nine-year losing streak to Berkeley.
COLLEGE PLANS: Interested in playing at Purdue, William & Mary and American University, where she also plans to study engineering.
