Blake Wilson, Steinbrenner
WHY WE CHOSE HIM: Wilson scored twice, including the winner seven minutes into overtime, to give the Steinbrenner soccer team a 4-3 win against St. Petersburg in the Class 5A-Region 2 quarterfinals. Wilson leads the Warriors with 19 goals and had the game-winner in the district championship against East Lake.
COLLEGE PLANS: Wilson will sign his national letter-of-intent today with Georgia Southern.
Ivy Carswell, Spoto
WHY WE CHOSE HER: A junior forward, Carswell led the Spartans, who had won two games overall entering the district tournament, to a district championship. Carswell scored 32 points in the district semifinals and 25 points in the Class 5A-District 9 title game against Middleton to give Spoto its first district championship. Carswell averaged 28.5 points for the tournament and scored 57 of her team’s 92 total points.
COLLEGE PLANS: Carswell is enrolled in the pharmacy program at Spoto and would like to study pharmaceuticals in college. She’s received interest from Florida A&M and would like to attend the University of Florida.
