RIVERVIEW — Sophomore Sterling Day rushed for 129 yards and scored two touchdowns as visiting Plant City pulled away in the second half for a victory over Spoto.
Hassan Bailey ran for one touchdown and took a short Landon Galloway pass 58 yards for a score in the third quarter as Plant City (5-2) broke away from a 7-7 halftime deadlock. Day scooted in from 7 yards on the third play of the final period and the Raiders had a commanding 26-7 advantage with 11:14 left.
“Our offensive line did a really good job in the second half,” Plant City coach Wayne Ward said. “We just didn’t capitalize in the first half. We missed a couple field goals, fumbled and Spoto did a good job with their game plan.”
Galloway completed 12 of 20 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 84 and another score as Plant City snapped a two-game slide. The senior quarterback hit Day for a 14-yard scoring strike to tie the game 7-7 with 3:43 left in the first quarter.
Kevin Hobley connected with Patrick James for a 16-yard score on the first drive of the game for Spoto (0-7). Joshua Battles rushed for 96 yards for the Spartans.
