Each week, the Tribune prep sports staff selects a Male and Female Athlete of the Week. The selections are based on athletic performance.
Dante Satcher, Countryside
WHY WE CHOSE HIM: Satcher had three touchdowns and 147 yards against Clearwater Central Catholic, the No. 1 team in Class 3A, according to The Associated Press, in the Kickoff Classic. He followed it up with 287 yards on 30 carries and two scores in the fourth quarter in a season-opening victory against Lakewood. Add that up, and he has 434 yards and five touchdowns in his last two games, which is only two fewer touchdowns than he had all last season.
COLLEGE PLANS: Satcher, a senior, has not received an offer yet. That will undoubtedly change shortly, given his performance so far this season.
Shea Hamilton, Clearwater Central Catholic
WHY WE CHOSE HER: The CCC volleyball team has made two consecutive state final fours, and Hamilton is the main reason. Only 5-foot-8, the outside hitter led the Marauders last year in kills with 280. She also had 312 digs and 28 aces. She has a hammer for an arm and is one of the top offensive players in the county. Hamilton will anchor a veteran-heavy group of six seniors; all poised to win a state title.
COLLEGE PLANS: Hamilton has received an offer from the University of Albany as a libero. She’s in contact with a few other schools, and more offers will surely roll in as the season goes along.
