Pasco's baseball coach resigns

Pasco baseball coach Ricky Giles resigned from the post he held for nearly 17 years, Pirates athletic director Tom McHugh confirmed.

A fax received by The Tampa Tribune from Pasco principal Patrick Reedy stated: "Pasco High School and Coach Ricky Giles announce that after successfully serving as Pirates Head Baseball Coach for the past 17 years, Coach Giles has resigned his head coaching position for personal reasons."

Giles also was a football assistant for the Pirates.

Giles' son, UMass football commit Trey Dudley-Giles, is Pasco's center fielder and a pitcher. He is still on the team.

Here is the spring football jamboree schedule involving Hillsborough County squads (spring practice starts May 1):

Swimming

Two captains from Wharton made college commitments, coach Nancy Brown confirmed.

Danielle Albright accepted a full-ride athletic and academic scholarship to Florida International University.

"I visited the campus a few weeks ago," Albright said. "I fell in love with everything — the school, the team, really everything there."

Albright finished fourth in the state in the 200 freestyle and seventh in the 100 freestyle. The senior was accepted into the honors program at FIU and carries a 5.2 grade-point average.

Chad Ankers accepted a scholarship offer from Adelphi University in New York, according to Brown. Ankers swam the 200 freestyle and 100 fly last season for the Wildcats. He also carries a 4.5 GPA.

"They are both dedicated, hard-working athletes and students," Brown said. "They gave everything every meet and made us tremendously proud."
