Pasco Prep Softball District Tournaments

Published:

7A-8 at Gaither

SCHEDULE: Wednesday: Sickles (5) vs. Wiregrass Ranch (4), 7 p.m. Thursday: Steinbrenner (2) vs. Freedom (3), 5 p.m.; Gaither (1) vs. Sickles-Wiregrass Ranch winner, 7 p.m. Saturday: Semifinal winners, 1 p.m.

NEED TO KNOW: If the Bulls (12-10, 3-5) look to reach the postseason, they’re going to need to defeat Sickles in the opening round after splitting the season series 1-1. Wiregrass Ranch would then have to defeat top-seeded Gaither, who they defeated 6-4 last week.

6A-10 at Mitchell

SCHEDULE: Tuesday: Dixie Hollins (4) vs. Largo (5), 4 p.m. Wednesday: Spring Hill Springstead (2) vs. Osceola (3), 5 p.m.; Mitchell (1) vs. Dixie Hollins-Largo winner, 7 p.m. Thursday: Semifinal winners, 7 p.m.

NEED TO KNOW: The Mustangs (22-2) have dominated 6A-10 with a 9-0 record and nine runs allowed. A tough schedule down the stretch has helped Mitchell prepare by facing teams like Gulf, Fivay and River Ridge. Mitchell is batting an impressive .405 with 253 hits and 218 runs. The Mustangs’ pitching staff of Madison Staniloui and Jordan Fowler has combined for 160 strikeouts and only 16 earned runs.

5A-7 at Tom Varn Park, Brooksville

SCHEDULE: Tuesday: Pasco (4) vs. Brooksville Central (5), 3:30 p.m. Zephyrhills (3) vs. Weeki Wachee (6), 5:45 p.m.; Brooksville Nature Coast (2) vs. Wesley Chapel (7), 8 p.m. Wednesday: Brooksville Nature Coast-Wesley Chapel winner vs. Zephyrhills-Weeki Wachee winner, 6 p.m.; Pasco-Brooksville Central winner vs. Brooksville Hernando winner, 8 p.m. Thursday: Semifinal winners, 7:30 p.m.

NEED TO KNOW: Brooksville Hernando and Brooksville Nature Coast are ranked in the latest state softball poll, and Pasco and Zephyrhills will likely face the two powerhouses. Pasco (9-15, 5-7) has won five of its last seven games, including against Fivay, Brooksville Central and Land O’ Lakes. Zephyrhills (11-10, 9-4) is the No. 3 seed in the tournament, lost to Nature Coast 6-3 on Feb. 28 and 7-5 earlier this month.

5A-8 at River Ridge

SCHEDULE: Monday: Gulf (2) vs. Sunlake (7), 5 p.m.; Dunedin (1) vs. Anclote (8), 7 p.m. Tuesday: Fivay (4) vs. Land O’ Lakes (5) 5 p.m.; River Ridge (3) vs. Tarpon Springs (6), 7 p.m. Wednesday: Dunedin-Anclote winner vs. Fivay-Land O’ Lakes winner, 5 p.m.; Gulf-Sunlake winner vs. River Ridge-Tarpon Springs winner, 7 p.m. Thursday: Semifinal winners, 7 p.m.

NEED TO KNOW: This district features four teams that have won district championships in the last two seasons. It’s a toss-up between the top three teams: Dunedin, Gulf and River Ridge, with Fivay in the mix to defeat any of the aforementioned squads. An anticipated semifinal matchup is Gulf and River Ridge, after the Buccaneers defeated the Royal Knights 3-2 at home.

4A-6 at The Villages School

SCHEDULE: Monday: Ocala Trinity Catholic (4) vs. Ridgewood (5), 6 p.m. Tuesday: Ocala Trinity Catholic-Ridgewood winner vs. South Sumter (1), 5 p.m.; The Villages (2) vs. Hudson (3), 7 p.m. Thursday: Semifinal winners, 7 p.m.

NEED TO KNOW: Hudson and Ridgewood have their work cut out, with the Cobras (10-12, 5-3) facing The Villages Charter, which defeated the Cobras twice this season. The Rams mustered only one win as the No. 5 seed and lost to Ocala Trinity Catholic by a combined 24-10 in two games this season.

2A-7 at West Tampa Little League

SCHEDULE: Thursday: Cambridge Christian (1) vs. Academy at the Lakes (2), 4 p.m.

NEED TO KNOW: With only two teams in the district, the Wildcats and Cambridge meet for the 2A-District 7 championship. Coach Jerry English comes in looking for another district title in his 38th season of coaching, but Academy dropped its only game with Cambridge 3-1 last week.
