Newsome’s Adam Gregorich will sign a national letter-of-intent Wednesday to play baseball at Truman State University (an NCAA Div. II school in Kirksville, Mo.), his parents, Kelley and Simon Gregorich announced.
Gregorich, an outfielder, has a 6.28 grade-point average and will be a Pershing Scholar recipient at Truman State, meaning he will get a full academic scholarship. Gregorich hopes to major in accounting.
Several Tampa Bay area players have been selected to the Florida Association of Basketball Coaches and Source Hoops Class 8A, 7A, 6A and 5A all-state teams.
Athletes named to the respective teams were St. Petersburg High’s Dayon Griffin (8A first team), East Bay’s Jon Jean (7A second team), Steinbrenner’s Keshawn Ingram (7A third team), Largo’s Donovan Hale (6A second team), Lakewood’s Jacobi Boykins (5A first team), Gibbs’ Barry Brown (5A third team) and River Ridge’s John Childs (5A third team).
Riverview High senior forward Kierra Haywood, a Tribune All-Hillsborough County first-team selection who led her team to a district championship, will sign with Florida State College in Jacksonville, while Armwood seniors Keaundra Ivory and Tru Hawkins, members of the Hawks’ region runner-up team this past season, have signed with College of Central Florida.
Riverview High senior Kylee White will sign with Southeastern University.
