LITHIA — Newsome’s Zac Slater threw a touchdown pass to start the game — and scored another at the end of the game by intercepting a pass and running it back 45 yards for a score.
Riverview (2-7) received the opening kickoff, but after three plays and a punt, Newsome took the ball and started the scoring early.
Quarterback Cole Schaller took the snap, quickly got the ball to Slater, who ran left, stopped and threw downfield where Tyson Mills was in full running stride and all alone. Mills was credited with a 49-yard touchdown catch, putting Newsome (5-5) up 6-0.
Newsome’s quick-score plays included Chris Bryant running in touchdowns from 50 yards and 3 yards.
Newsome’s Bruce Anderson scored on a 32-yard pass play from Schaller, and he finished the game with 74 rushing yards on 17 carries.
Riverview’s lone score came in the third quarter on a 10-play, 84-yard drive, capped by Fred McCoy’s 16-yard touchdown run.
The Sharks were led by Keisean Young, who ran 12 times for 50 yards, McCoy, who had 10 carries for 35 yards and Charles Cooper, who ran 23 yards on 10 carries.
