Junior running back Kevin Newman rushed for four touchdowns and more than 100 yards in the first half to lead Jesuit to a 55-19 victory against Dixie Hollins in a spring football game Monday night.
Junior quarterback Trent Wessel was 10 of 14 for 161 yards while Wesley Eveld, also a senior, led two scoring drives in the second half. Jesuit, which reached the region semifinals of the 5A state playoffs last year, led 42-7 at the half.
“Our offense is actually a senior laden team,” Jesuit coach Matt Thompson said.
One of only three teams in their district, the Tigers are playing the same difficult non-district schedule that they did in 2013, which should prepare the Tigers for another playoff run, Thompson said.
Only two teams on the Tigers’ 2013 schedule missed the playoffs, and the 2014 schedule includes games against Hardee, Lakewood Ranch, Largo, Clearwater Central Catholic, Orlando Bishop Moore and rival Tampa Catholic.
