WESLEY CHAPEL — In two games, two Mitchell teams stayed perfect in their district.
The Mitchell boys and girls soccer teams swept a doubleheader at Class 4A-District 8 foe Wiregrass Ranch on Tuesday, as the girls (12-0, 4-0) first won 2-1 and the boys (12-2, 5-0) won 3-1.
In the first game, the Mustangs took a quick 1-0 lead in the 12th minute when striker Sabrina Wagner scored on a breakaway. However, late in the first half, Bulls (8-3-2, 1-2-1) Vanessa Jordan would send a crossing pass to Sareya Maxson, who scored her team-high 12th goal.
Wagner would then score her team-high 18th goal in 44th minute, and the Mustangs would hold off Wiregrass’ pressure, even without two of the team’s top players: Gina Davis and Danielle Gottwik.
On the boys side, the Bulls (8-1-1, 4-1) took a 1-0 lead into halftime thanks to a free kick goal by Bryce Wilson (13). Mitchell would respond with three second-half goals from Brady Friedman, Chet Kirtley and Mico Petrovich, who has a team-high 18. Petrovich’s goal in the 67th minute gave Mitchell the lead, after assisting on Friedman’s goal in the 44th minute, and Friedman would assist on Kirtley’s goal in the 70th.
