Land O' Lakes and Zephyrhills girls teams tied for second place in the Class 2A-District 6 tournament Thursday at Zephyr Park.
The rain-delayed tournament will finish when the two teams meet playing pro sets at 3:30 p.m. today at the Land O' Lakes High courts.
Pasco won the district title with 15 points. Zephyrhills and Land O' Lakes had 10. Gulf, last year's runner-up, had nine points and missed forcing a three-way tie.
The runner-up travels Tuesday to face Crystal River, the 2A-District 5 winner.
Crystal River has won their district two years in a row.
Land O' Lakes freshman Joslyn Lafond forced the tie, winning the No. 4 singles final with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over Pasco's Norah Taylor.
"I'm really excited for tomorrow,'' Land O' Lakes coach Samantha Taylor said. "I'm not surprised that they got second. They are exhausted. I'm happy for them."
Zephyrhills' Sarah Vande Berg was a major factor for the Bulldogs. The junior won her second-straight district title at No. 1 singles and she and Sydney Owens won the No. 1 doubles title. Vande Berg and Owens qualified to play at the state meet regardless of today's outcome. Vande Berg beat Land O' Lakes' Wenyi Gu 6-1, 6-1 for the singles title.
"I'm excited to be going to state and face some tough competition," Vande Berg said. "I'm relieved it's over. I'm excited because I won. There was pain (she was icing her right elbow), but you have to work through it. I think I could have played all day."
