Land O'Lakes took adavantage of three Citrus errors and four walks to score four unearned runs in a 9-5 victory over the Hurricanes, 9-5, Thursday night at Land O'Lakes.
The Gators (15-3, 10-2) got it going in the bottom of the first. After they loaded the bases on two errors and a fielder's choice, Steven Rosario drove in the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly. Two batters later, Dylan Harrison drove a single up the middle for a 3-0 lead. Harrison went 3 for 3 on the night with three RBIs.
But in the next frame the Hurricanes (10-8, 7-6) battled back. Hayden Kelly ripped a two-run home run to right and Shawn Rowland followed with a solo blast to left-center to tie the game at three.
And in the third, the Hurricanes took the lead. With two men on and one out, Garret Wilkinson singled in a run, and Patrick Martin drove in another with a safety squeeze bunt for a 5-3 Citrus lead.
In the bottom half of the inning, the Gators answered, a two-run single by Harrrison tying the score at 5, and they took the lead for good in the next inning. Brandon Krauter drew a two-out, bases-loaded walk, and Trey McKnickle scored from third on a wild pitch. Solo home runs by McKnickle and Daniel Perez rounded out the scoring.
For Gators head coach Calvin Baisley, it was a satisfying win in a tough district. "There's some good arms in this district. said Baisley. "River Ridge has a really good one. Lecanto has two.
"Every team has somebody that can beat you if you don't show up. You have to show up to play."
