RUSKIN — After the game was delayed 90 minutes because of lightning, King had difficulty with Lennard in the first half. However, the Lions shut out the Longhorns in the second half to pull away for the victory.
Trailing 14-3, Lennard pulled within 14-12 in the second quarter after Diontae Johnson completed a 17-yard touchdown pass to Tre Jones, and the Longhorns tackled King in its end zone on the ensuing kick off for a safety.
King used third-quarter touchdowns from Darian Wright and Paul Harper to pull away from Lennard.
The King defense stepped up in the second half as it sacked Lennard four times, forced a fumble and stopped Lennard on a fourth down to pitch a second-half shutout.
King had a wide array of ball carriers. Quarterback Wright led the way with 64 yards rushing.
Johnson had 129 yards passing before leaving with an injury in the fourth quarter.
Next week, King hosts Middleton on Thursday night, while Lennard is at Chamberlain on the same night.
