TAMPA - Jefferson High senior and standout quarterback Deiondre Porter verbally committed to South Florida on Wednesday, becoming the second quarterback prospect from Tampa to commit to the Bulls this week.
Wharton High quarterback Chase Litton committed to USF on Monday.
Last season as a junior, Porter threw for 2,276 yards, second in Hillsborough County behind Litton, and 27 touchdowns with 13 interceptions. He also rushed for 398 yards with five rushing touchdowns.
Jefferson head coach Jeremy Earle said Porter, who stands 6-foot-2, 195 pounds, has been recruited at several positions due to his athleticism and was recruited by USF as an athlete. Porter is also a standout on the track and qualified for the state meet in for events, which consisted of the 110 meter hurdles, long jump, 4x100 relay and 4x4 relay. Porter also ran a 10.9 in the 100 meter dash and was named to the Tribune's All-County team this past season. Porter
"Some people say quarterback, others say wide receiver and some say NFL cornerback," Earle said.
Last month, former Penn State quarterback Steven Bench transferred to USF, where he will be immediately eligible this fall. The Bulls also have incoming freshman Mike White of Fort Lauderdale University, who committed to USF on Dec. 8.
