TAMPA — When he heard that his team had just run for 320 yards against Robinson, Jefferson quarterback Deiondre Porter wasn’t surprised. If anything, he expected it. The Dragons (3-0, 2-0 Class 6A-District 8) got 162 yards and three TDs rushing from Porter and 145 yards and two TDs from Mondreas Lofton, cruising past the Knights (0-3, 0-2) at Jack Peters Field.
In the process they erased their second two-game losing streak to a crosstown opponent in as many weeks, distanced themselves from another team in the ultra-deep 6A-8 and set up another district showdown next week with Armwood.
“It’s been a long time coming,” Porter said. “They beat us two years in a row, Hillsborough beat us two years in a row. Armwood has beaten us two years in a row. It’s time to get a lot of revenge.”
Jefferson raced to a 19-0 first-quarter lead, scoring on its opening drive and capitalizing on back-to-back Robinson turnovers. The Knights experimented with a new QB (Derrell Gwyn) before turning to regular starter Travis Forehand to begin their third series.
