Golf: Sunshine Athletic Conference preview

Published:   |   Updated: October 5, 2013 at 05:59 PM

Boys Tournament

WHEN: Monday, 9 a.m. shotgun start

WHERE: Quail Hollow Golf Course, 6225 Old Pasco Road, Wesley Chapel, 33544

NEED TO KNOW: Mitchell, which is undefeated (12-0)this season behind players such as Mike Spinger, who led the team with a 37 nine-hole avg., Donnie Gabrelcik and Anthony Swinford, is looking to a three-peat. The Mustangs have won the past two SAC tourneys and are going to for their third straight and sixth in the past eighth seasons. Mitchell has also won 36-straight conference matches, including shooting a school-record 135 vs. Zephyrhills on Thursday.

Some of the strongest competitors should be district rival, River Ridge, led by Mike Dodson and Mike Stewart and Zephyrhills, led by Stephen Pollock. Keep an eye on some of the deeper teams, such as Pasco, Land O’ Lakes and Wiregrass Ranch, that could make late moves on the back nine.

WHEN: Tuesday, 8:30 a.m. shotgun start

WHERE: Plantation Palms Golf Club, 23253 Plantation Palms Blvd, Land O’ Lakes, 34639

NEED TO KNOW: Mitchell looks to continue its county-wide dominance, even as it comes into this tourney undefeated just like their male counterparts. The Mustangs, led by Lindsey Ritchie who is averaging about 39 per nine holes, is seeing its 13th-straight SAC title and are heavily favored to do so after winning last season’s SAC tourney by 38 strokes. Top compeitors also include Sunlake, led by Kelly Harris, and Land O’ Lakes, led by Eden Shirmohammad. Keep an eye on Fivay, which returns depth as a team that made states last season.
