SPRING HILL — Despite the lopsided records going into the game, Bishop McLaughlin was feeling good about an upset win. Alex Stafford, the team’s top rusher on offense and a leader on defense, was fully healed from a back injury suffered two weeks earlier. On the third play of the game, he forced and recovered a fumble on their own 40-yard line.
However, the host Hurricanes (1-3) could not keep up with the size and speed of the visiting Bulldogs (4-0). The Hurricanes’ running game (12 yards on 15 carries) was stopped either at the line of scrimmage or for a loss. QB R.J. Perciavalle was sacked seven times and was consistently forced out of the pocket by Frostproof’s swarming rush.
The Bulldogs used seven running backs and accumulated 416 rushing yards. Fourteen penalties kept them from running the score even higher.
“The strength of our running game is between the hash marks and they successfully shut us down,” said Hurricane coach Derrick Alexander. “Our top receiver, Will Potosky, was double teamed, so we tried passing to our other receivers, but they stopped us for no gain or a couple yards at most.”
