Freshmen Taylor Bump and Danielle Romanello had four hits apiece Wednesday to lead the Canterbury School to a 15-1, mercy-rule victory against Sarasota Christian in the Class 2A state softball semifinals at Historic Dodgertown in Vero Beach.
Canterbury, the defending 2A state champion, scored six in the first inning, and that would be all freshman pitcher Kama Woodall would need. Woodall allowed only two hits and an unearned run while striking out 12.
Bump had two triples, four runs scored and two RBIs for the Crusaders, while Romanello had a triple, a home run, four runs scored and four RBIs.
Hailey Hopkins added three hits for Canterbury and Kaeli Farnsworth had a pair.
Canterbury will play Monticello Aucilla Christian for the 2A state championship at 1:35 p.m. today.
