Plant High sophomore Michael Frazier surpassed the 1,000-point mark Friday night in a 63-59 victory against Newsome.
Frazier, believed to be the first player in Hillsborough County history to reach that mark as a 10th-grader, had 29 points.
"I was just playing, and I didn't know it had happened until they stopped the game," said Frazier, a 6-foot-4, 180-pound guard. "Really it's about team, team, team. I was just trying to let to the game come to me and ended up with enough points."
Meanwhile, Jefferson's Laurie' Beaty didn't waste time getting her 1,000th career point Friday.
Needing just two points to reach the milestone, the junior guard achieved it when she hit a 3-pointer just 12 seconds into the game against Hillsborough.
"She took care of business right away," Jefferson coach Tom Mosca said.
Beaty finished with 24 points in the Dragons' 61-41 win.
