Football: Northeast hires Frioud as coach

The search for a head football coach is over at Northeast High and the Vikings didn’t have to look too far to find him.

Former Largo defensive coordinator Jeremy Frioud said Friday he has been hired to take over as the head coach at Northeast. Frioud replaces Mike Jalazo, who coached the program for three seasons and previously coached at Clearwater Central Catholic.

“It was the best phone call I have ever received in my life,” Frioud said of hearing about being hired at Northeast. “I’m going to bring back the old-school mentality at Northeast. We’re going to have a dominant run game and play great defense. We’re going to win in the classroom, community and on the field. If we take care of all those things, the wins will take care of themselves.”

Frioud was a finalist for a few jobs within Pinellas County, most recently at Gibbs and Seminole, and after 12 years at Largo will take over a Northeast team that is coming off a 1-9 season.

Brinson steps down at Boca Ciega’s coach

Antez Brinson resigned as head football coach at Boca Ciega after three years to spend more time with his family, according to the school’s principal, Michael Vigue.

Vigue said the school would be accepting applicants until early next month.

Brinson, a former assistant at Lakewood, was 3-7 this season and 12-18 in his time at Boca Ciega.
