CLEARWATER — Jeff Smith ran for two scores and Kyle Brittain had two interceptions to lead Clearwater Central Catholic to a victory against Ocala Trinity Catholic.
Smith, a junior quarterback, rushed for 154 yards and passed for 101. Lined up in the shotgun, he took it 67 yards untouched for a score on the Marauders’ first offensive snap of the game.
Trinity Catholic scored 14 unanswered points in the second quarter to take a 14-10 lead into halftime. Quarterback Reid Carlton connected with wide receiver Rudi Outar on a 35-yard touchdown pass, and Johnnie Taylor scored on a 5-yard touchdown run right before the half.
With the score 14-10 early in the third, receiver J.T. Steele took a short pass from Smith 61 yards down the sideline that culminated in a Diquan Walker 6-yard touchdown run as the Marauders regained the lead for good.
After Brittain intercepted Carlton, Smith capped a 52-yard, three-play drive with an 11-yard touchdown run that made it 24-14.
Steele finished with three receptions for 81 yards. Running back Eric Davis added 50 rushing yards on six carries and two late touchdowns
