KISSIMMEE — For the second straight season, the Clearwater Central Catholic volleyball team fell one match shy of playing in the state championship.
The Marauders lost in the Class 3A state semifinals Tuesday in a five-set battle to defending champion Orlando First Academy, 20-25, 25-21, 26-24, 15-25, 11-15.
First Academy, which is going for its sixth straight state title, will play Westminster Christian in the state final today at 3:05 p.m.
Brittany Smith led First Academy with 21 kills and 18 digs, while Kennedy Wilson had 36 digs.
Wake Forest commitment Katie Moore had 16 kills and Shea Hamilton had 15 to lead the Marauders attack. Hamilton also had a team-high 34 digs.
The Marauders (24-6) committed 40 attack errors compared to First Academy’s 23, including 12 in the fourth set and four in the fifth set.
