CLEARWATER — Clearwater Central Catholic quickly put to rest any doubts about it repeating as district champions Friday night.
A 16-point first quarter and a dominant defensive effort paved the way for a 44-3 rout of visiting Admiral Farragut and clinched a second straight Class 3A-District 5 title.
“We’ve been getting off to good starts the past two or three weeks and we did it again (Friday),” CCC head coach John Davis said. “I still don’t think we’ve peaked yet. If we can keep playing well and stay healthy, I like our chances in the playoffs.”
Touchdown runs of 28 yards from Connor Davis and 40 yards from Diquan Walker, coupled with Yanni Ramos’ 34-yard field goal, staked CCC (7-1, 4-0) to a 16-0 lead. Four key fourth-down defensive stops, two coming at the Marauders’ 13- and 15-yard lines, guaranteed the lead would be more than enough.
“Any time you can stop a team from that close, it’s a big play,” Davis said. “They gave us a lot of momentum.”
Eric Davis led all rushers with 83 yards.
