CLEARWATER — Canaan Brown, Scott DePergola and Connor Dorris each had offensive touchdowns to lead Clearwater Central Catholic to a victory against rival Jesuit.
With Jesuit holding an early 3-0 lead, Brown, a senior tight end, took a short pass from Jeff Smith on third down and scampered down the right sideline for a 65-yard touchdown on Clearwater Central Catholic’s second possession. It was the first offensive touchdown of Brown’s career.
“I never scored an offensive touchdown before,” Brown said. “I caught the ball and there was no one in front me.”
The score stayed 7-3 until midway through the third quarter when Dorris punched it in from 1 yard out, capping off a 68-yard, eight-play drive.
With the score still 14-3 early in the fourth quarter, Eric Davis intercepted Jesuit quarterback Trent Wessel and returned it 34 yards to the Jesuit 15-yard line.
DePergola made it 21-3 when he scored on a run up the middle on the next play.
Diquan Walker had 12 rushes for 58 yards for Clearwater Central Catholic. Davis added 43 yards on 10 carries.
