TAMPA — Cambridge Christian quarterback Garrett Young exhibited Johnny Manziel-type skills in helping the Lancers secure a key district battle against Northside Christian. The junior signal-caller ran for 155 yards and one touchdown and passed for 140 yards and two touchdowns.
Northside Christian freshman quarterback Griffin Alstott entered the game in the second quarter and completed his first career touchdown pass. The son of the former Buccaneers running back and current coach of the Mustangs, Mike Alstott, finished 10-for-28 with two TDs and three interceptions while passing for 188 yards.
The Lancers, who rushed for 301 yards while holding the Mustangs to 88 yards, held a 22-0 lead after the first quarter that they would never relinquish due in part to impressive plays by Young and big stops by their defense.
Young opened the scoring with a 17-yard connection to Nick Stein two minutes into the game. Andrew Cunningham scored on a 2-yard run moments later.
