TAMPA — Brandon head coach Dean Eychner has been preaching about tradition this season to his Eagles. With it being the 100th anniversary of the school opening, Eychner is hoping to return Brandon to the top tier of teams in Hillsborough County.
In its season opener at Blake, the Eagles took that first step with a strong defensive showing in a victory. Brandon got on the board first with a 27-yard field goal from Tyler Beacom.
The score remained 3-0 until the third quarter when Johnathan Jones scored on a 10-yard run.
The Eagles put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter when quarterback Brandon Jones scored on a 6-yard run with 9 minutes, 14 seconds remaining.
Blake got on the scoreboard with 2:01 left in the game on a 10-yard run by running back Corey Bennett.
Next week, Brandon will play host to Bloomingdale, which was a surprise winner over Strawberry Crest. Blake begins Class 6A-District 8 play against mighty Armwood on Friday.
