BRANDON — Brandon used two long first-half drives, key fourth-down conversions and a strong defense to hang on and beat Chamberlain.
On its opening drive, Brandon went 64 yards on 17 plays and scored on a Brandon Jones QB keeper from 5 yards out to put the Eagles up 7-0. Brandon ran the ball 16 times and converted twice on fourth down on the drive that took eight minutes.
In the second quarter, Brandon went on an 11-play drive and converted two more times on fourth down. Trevor Raymond burst through a hole and scored from 20 yards out to put Brandon up 14-0.
Chamberlain responded with a 60-yard run by Dakarai Highsmith on the next play from scrimmage to make it 14-6.
Neither team scored in the second half as both defenses held firm.
Chamberlain was stopped on fourth-and-short plays from the Brandon 16 and later at the Brandon 32. With 1:30 to go in the game, Chamberlain recovered a Brandon fumble and got to the Brandon 34, but the drive stalled and the Eagles kneeled to end the game.
Dontae McGee finished with 86 yards rushing for Brandon. Highsmith had 107 yards rushing.
Next week, Chamberlain hosts Blake and Brandon hosts Middleton.
