Boys soccer: Sunlake, Wiregrass tie

Published:

WESLEY CHAPEL — In the end, both teams are still undefeated.

Sunlake (6-0-1) and Wiregrass Ranch (5-0-1), in a battle of Pasco County unbeatens, played to a 2-2 draw Monday as the Bulls erased a 2-0 deficit.

“I thought when we were up 2-0, we had to get that hold,” Seahawks coach Sam Koleduk said. “No matter what you have, you’ve got to hold a two-goal lead.”The Seahawks would take a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute when Cobi Shermo put away a ball on a free kick from Remi Pimm. However, late in the first, Seahawks forward Connor Spencer was fouled, but then drew a red card for unsportsmanlike conduct for using foul language.

Even with 10 players, Sunlake grabbed a 2-0 lead in the 53rd minute on Shermo’s second goal .

“Getting down 2-0 was unfortunate, because they’re so dangerous,” Bulls coach Dave Wilson said. “But these players are young. They come out with no fear and weren’t around last year to know just exactly what Sunlake did to teams.”

The Bulls, facing a team that was outscoring opponents 41-1, scored three minutes later when Bryce Wilson put away his team-high eighth goal of the season on pass from Andy Hippley.

Wiregrass tied it in the 75th minute on a cross from Brendan Duran that Tristan Hart buried .

“This was a good game for our young team, but they also don’t know any better when facing a tough opponent,” Wilson said. “They just play, but it also works well for them.”
