VALRICO — Quarterback Isaiah McIntyre ran for two touchdowns and threw for another as Bloomingdale came from behind to defeat visiting Strawberry Crest in the season opener for both teams.
McIntyre connected with Doug Sandberg on a 28-yard scoring strike down the left sideline to give the Bulls the lead with 4:07 left in the third quarter. McIntyre burst up the middle on a draw for 16 yards on third-and-goal with 1:22 remaining in the contest to give Bloomingdale more cushion.
Strawberry Crest quarterback Tristan Hyde threw for two touchdowns and 136 yards in the first half, but the Bulls’ defense shut the Chargers down for the final two quarters. Bloomingdale held Strawberry Crest to 59 yards rushing in the game.
Sandberg caught five passes for 97 yards – 44 on the game’s first play from scrimmage. McIntyre rushed for 90 yards and was 12-of-21 for 144 yards through the air.
Lucas Jose drilled a 53-yard field goal to pull Bloomingdale within 6-3 early in the second quarter, then McIntyre bulled in from 1 yard with 3:01 left in the half. Hyde hit Farron Rainford for a 21-yard touchdown with 53 seconds left in the half for a 12-10 lead.
