Big plays doom Carrollwood Day

NAPLES — For the second consecutive year, the Carrollwood Day School football team’s season came to an end at the hands of First Baptist Academy. Three long touchdowns Friday night gave First Baptist a 20-0 victory against CDS in the Class 2A-Region 3 quarterfinals.

First Baptist advances to play at Indian Rocks Christian next week in the region final.

Tyler Brecher scored on a pair of pass plays for First Baptist. After a scoreless first quarter, Brecher was on the receiving end of a Jack Bueltel pass for a 76-yard score.

First Baptist made it 13-0 with 10:40 remaining in the third quarter when Tyler Dean connected with Brecher on a 55-yard score.

The Lions put the game away on a Dylan Cybelli 54-yard touchdown.

Carrollwood Day, the runner-up in Class 2A-District 5, finished with a 7-4 record.
