TAMPA — It was already a pressure-filled situation when Tampa Catholic and Berkeley Prep squared off in a tight Class 4A-District 10 race Wednesday night. And just to tick things up, the teams faced off under even brighter lights — those of Steinbrenner Field, home to New York’s Florida State League team, the Tampa Yankees.
Berkeley Prep senior Dante Bosnic looked at ease on the mound, holding the Crusaders to one run on four hits in a 2-1 win, earning the Buccaneers the top seed in the district tournament.
“This was a dream come true, especially in my senior year,” Bosnic said. “Hopefully I can play out here again someday.”
Berkeley Prep (11-2) got on the board in the fourth, as Danny Brackman singled in a run to break the stalemate. The Buccaneers added a run in the fifth as Bosnic helped his cause with a sacrifice fly to bring in Nicholas Kavouklis, who had singled to lead off the inning.
Bosnic said he knew the run would be crucial, since one run was the difference the last time the teams met, a 4-3 Buccaneers win.
