Berkeley Prep's Danielle Michiels is the lone senior on the squad this year and is the do-it-all performer for the Buccaneers.
I heard you moved here from Virginia last year, so how do you like the Bay area so far?
I love the Bay area. There's a lot to do here, and when it comes to volleyball there's a lot more competition. I guess that's because it's such a bigger volleyball area. I definitely noticed volleyball was a much more popular girls sport here than in Virginia, and that's pretty cool.
What role did you play for your team in Virginia?
When I was in Virginia I was a setter on my team, and when I came here, I started playing right side. It's been a fun transition and I like it.
How many positions have you played this season?
I've played right side, played a little bit of libero, I set a couple of times and I also played DS (defensive specialist) a couple of times.
How bad does this team want to get back to the state championship?
Really bad. Our team may seem young this year, but everyone on this team has such a huge heart and everyone wants to go far. We all really want to make it to states this year.
What is something people would not know about you?
Probably the fact that I love working with animals. When I go to college I really want to study marine biology. I've always had a dream to be one of those dolphin trainers at SeaWorld. It might sound silly but it's one of my dreams. I did community service where I worked with horses this summer and I also did community service where I worked with cats at this place called Kitty City. I have dogs, a bird and fish. I used to have hamsters but those things are trouble.
