TAMPA — At one point in the first quarter Friday night, Berkeley Prep turned the ball over on an interception to Middleton, then Middleton gave it right back with a fumble on the next play, only to have the Buccaneers cough it up with a fumble of their own.

Three turnovers on three consecutive plays.

The series characterized the type of the contest between Berkeley and Middleton in which the Buccaneers eventually prevailed with just 209 yards of offense.

With both teams combining for seven turnovers and a little more than 200 penalty yards, the Buccaneers went into halftime with an 8-6 lead thanks to two field goals by Austin Iglehart and a safety recorded on Middleton quarterback Antonio Nelson. The Tigers got on the scoreboard 12 seconds before halftime when Nelson hooked up with Brandon Tillman on a screen pass that Tillman scrambled in from 33 yards out after breaking six tackles.

The Bucs took a 14-6 lead early in the third quarter after Middleton muffed a punt on its 1-yard line. Gordon Stetson scored on a run, but Iglehart’s point-after try was blocked.

On Middleton’s next series, Berkeley Prep got a safety.
